The Idaho Falls Opera Theatre proudly presents a wickedly clever double bill: Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Michael Ching’s Buoso’s Ghost. Two operas packed with deception, ambition, and razor-sharp humor. In Gianni Schicchi, composer Giacomo Puccini delivers one of opera’s greatest comedies. When the wealthy Buoso Donati dies, his greedy relatives discover they’ve been cut out of the will. Desperate, they turn to the cunning Gianni Schicchi for help—only to find themselves outmatched in a scheme more outrageous than they imagined. Featuring the beloved aria “O mio babbino caro,” this fast-paced farce is a masterpiece of wit and melodic brilliance.
Picking up where Puccini left off, Michael Ching’s Buoso’s Ghost imagines what happens next. In this sparkling sequel, the chaos continues as secrets unravel, ghosts appear, and justice finds its own mischievous path. Cleverly weaving Puccini’s original music with new material, Ching expands the story with fresh twists and laugh-out-loud moments.
Together, these companion pieces create a full evening of comic intrigue, unforgettable melodies, and operatic fun. Join Idaho Falls Opera Theater for a night of laughter, romance, and brilliantly plotted mischief where greed, love, and cleverness collide in spectacular fashion.
